Job Summary

Our growing team has an opening for an experienced Product Development & Engineering leader for New Product Introduction (NPI) in support of the Concurrent Engineering activities between Concept Development and Pilot Production. This opportunity is ideal for individuals with broad engineering backgrounds that have a strong passion for collaboratively leading and managing cross-functional teams to commercialize innovation.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Provides technical, personnel leadership and management for all functions of NPI, including Mechanical/Electrical/Software/Firmware/Reliability Engineering and Project Management to satisfy customer requirements and specifications, from initial proposal through production
  • Recruiting and Hiring of the engineering staff, manages staff and assigns tasks to personnel, mentoring and training of individual skills and techniques
  • Champion and foster maturity of AIS’s Concurrent Engineering development process
  • Oversees the aggregate of project timelines, budget, resource allocation, and risk
  • Participate in design review as appropriate
  • Help to innovate and cultivate AIS’s technology offering in order to provide capability differentiation in our core competencies
  • Support proposal activities working collaboratively to develop Scope of Work statements,  conceptual architecture, NRE/NRT budget estimates, COGS estimates, and draft program timelines
  • Development and maintenance of AIS’s processes, procedures, and design standards
  • Contributes to expense and capital budget rollup activities, then executing to the final budget within the limits of the business model.
  • Evaluation, deployment, and maintenance of Department and Personnel development tools, including CAD applications and hardware, Prototyping equipment and tools, Electrical programing, analysis and programing systems
  • Qualification and oversight of external design contractors
  • Collaborates with VP of Engineering on company-wide initiatives to achieve macro-plan objectives
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives
  • Aligning design architectures with reliability engineering methodologies including stress, durability analysis and HALT
  • Reducing technical risk through DoE, PoC, and prototyping
  • Ensuring designs support regulatory approval requirements, such as FCC, TUV, CE, UL, etc.

 

Qualifications

Essential:

  • BS Engineering with 10+ years of relevant product development and prior management experience. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Full Product Development lifecycle experience from initial concept through maturity is extremely important
  • Experience driving Organizational Change
  • Experience applying personnel performance management techniques that result in a high-performing team and culture
  • Ability to solve a wide range of technical/business problems & contribute creative ideas
  • Self-starter, highly motivated, and extremely collaborative
  • Thrives with fast pace, constant change, and handling multiple projects
  • CAD design, Schematic Capture, and Programming experience, designing and analyzing multi-part mechanisms and mechanical/electromechanical assemblies
  • Experience with continuous improvement, process development and training
  • Basic understanding of cost accounting
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and written, with customers, vendors, and factory personnel
  • Experience in a Manufacturing or Manufacturing Engineering environment
  • Experience managing external contracting design resources
  • Ability to manage technical and commercial risk

 

Desired:

  • Experience with one or more complimentary AIS systems and technologies, such as Touch Sensing, Gestures, Voice Recognition, Magnetic Field and IMU motion tracking (MoCap), Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR/VR) systems, Control Systems, Mathematical Algorithms, Physics, and Robotics
  • Practice in Agile/SCRUM or similar SW development methodologies
  • Understanding of Patent development processes
  • Design for Manufacturing and Automation
  • Experience with Engineering Applications Administration (i.e. Vault repositories, Issue Trackers, Collaboration Tools)
  • Experience with Statistical Quality Control and Inspection techniques
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 & 13485 practices
